Delegates will have the opportunity to evaluate the evidence around the debate on fructose and discuss its impact on public health messaging. With the SACN Report due out in June, the Summit will provide a timely opportunity to examine the progress made by The Responsibility Deal and consider the effectiveness of voluntary pledges in achieving sugar reduction. Other key presentations will include the practical pathways to reducing or replacing sugar in foods, the role of sweeteners, case studies of successful sugar reduction programmes and the potential impact of state-sanctioned controls such as taxation and legislation.

Whether or not you believe that excessive sugar could be “toxic”, there is broad agreement among health professionals that benefits would be derived from reducing sugar consumption – particularly in children and teenagers – and practical steps need to be taken to achieve this. The Sugar Reduction Summit is the only event that will bring together policymakers, the food industry and public health professionals to discuss the critical issues around sugar and debate the challenges and opportunities presented by sugar reduction.

The Sugar Reduction Summit will provide a timely opportunity for stakeholders to debate the role of excessive sugar in nutrition and will include key debates, giving the opportunity for conflicting perspectives to be examined and evaluated. It will be particularly relevant to:
